Music Lessons

Private lessons are by appointment only, and new students are admitted as room becomes available. Any student who is committed to practicing and learning their instrument is welcome. Minimum practice should be the amount of time of your lesson, at least 5 days a week (if you take a 1/2 hour lesson, you should be practicing at least 1/2 hour a day at least 5 days a week) There may be a waiting list, but please call or email and we will discuss your personal situation. Sample lesson rates are:

1/2 hour: $24 (beginners, most middle school, some high school)

45 minutes: $36 (middle and high school, for students wanting to go beyond the basics)

1 hour: $48 (for serious students, and for hammered dulcimer)

Woodwind Repairs

Greg repairs all woodwinds, from simple adjustments and key regulation, to complete repads and overhauls. My rate is $50.00/hour, and most repairs are billed on labor, + supplies. Recognizing that every instrument and its repair needs are unique, sample charges for various categories of repairs could be:

1. Your instrument was recently working, now it isn't anymore. Maybe a pad is leaking, a cork has fallen off, and keys are out of regulation: $25-$50.

2. You bent a key, now it is binding. $25-$75 or more, depending on severity of bent metal.

3. Your instrument has cracked!! Oh no! $50-$100 or more, depending on severity of crack.

4. Overhauls:

clarinet - $150-175.

oboe - $200-300

saxophones - $250-350

bassoon - $300-500

flutes - I do only basic repairs on flutes, such as replace a pad, regulate and adjust keys, replace a key cork. I will refer you to other repair technicians for flute overhauls.

Brass - (trumpets, trombones, tubas, french horns). I don't have the tooling and supplies to do brass repairs.

Let me know what your repair needs are, and I'll be glad to work with you.

Recordings

Nancy and I are definitely "recording-challenged." We'll get our own done eventually. In the mean time, you can hear us on other people's recordings, listed below.

Andy Brown, piano

Album: And We Go On

"Heart-felt, personal reflections on piano and guitar that inspire the imagination and are healing to the soul."

Andy is our son, and recorded this CD at age 17 that will knock your socks off. If you like Jim Brickman or George Winston, you'll love this. He plays solo piano, 2 tracks on solo guitar, and a duet with Greg on guitar and hammered dulcimer: "Peace" (track 13). You can purchase the whole album, or individual tracks at CDbaby.com:

Cynthia Lynn, violin, piano and other assorted instruments

Album: Cynthia and Friends: The Music Box

Cindy is a good friend with whom we have done many concerts and weddings. She's a superb musician, easy to work with, and we always seem to create a special musical synergy together. We are on three tracks on this CD, Greg on hammered dulcimer, and Nancy on oboe and recorders:

2. Haste to the Wedding/Kesh Jig

17. Greenslives

19. Childgrove/Planxty Fanny Po'er/Torranto

Music Supplies and Accessories

Greg has a relationship with wholesale music supply sources, and can therefore get supplies at deep discounts over retail. (He still has to make a profit, though!) We have found it impractical and expensive to try to keep retail supplies in stock, so we periodically place large supply orders. If you are coming for a repair or for lessons, we usually have a few tuners, metronomes, swabs, etc. on hand, if you need one.

If you are a church, school, teaching studio, or large musical group, and need a large quantity of something, we can usually get it at a substantial savings over full retail outlets. This could include music stands, instrument stands, folders, reeds, mouthpieces, lubricants, swabs, strings, tuners and metronomes, and certain audio gear. Call for a quote, and see how our price compares to other sources.

Imagination Redeemed Conference

 —  —

Glen Eyrie Castle, 3820 North 30th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904

A highlight of inspiration, rejuvenation, growth, meeting old friends and making new ones, and always joyous music-making. We don't yet know specifically what we're doing at the conference, but we're going out on a limb and assuming that it will be something magical. In the past we have performed Gabriel's Oboe, trio sonatas, a series of Sanctus movements arranged for our unique instrumentation, accompanied singers and the choir. We'll see what surprises this year's conference has in store! Tickets usually sell out long in advance!
